I offer free consultations so I can get a sense of what you’re looking for and you have an opportunity to ask me questions. It’s my duty as a clinician to make sure I’m practicing within my scope, so if it sounds like there might be another therapist out there who would better help you reach your goals, I’ll let you know. Fill out my contact form and I’ll get in touch!

Reasonable concern! Sometimes part of the reason you might want your teen in therapy is because you’re feeling distant from them, so how can you even know if they’re going to connect to a stranger? While I don’t know your teen (yet!) I know this:
Trust and rapport need to be built before anyone can feel comfortable enough to open up, and adolescents have the added layer of being the youngest person in the therapy room. It can be intimidating, and sometimes it takes them a moment to realize I’m not just here to share their secrets with their parents. In fact, I can’t share anything with parents that they don’t want me to (outside of emergency or safety situations)!
That said, teens might need a few sessions to warm up to the therapy process, so I’d encourage patience with the process. Outpatient therapy is a choice, and I believe minors should be able to consent to their own therapy just as adults do. There’s still a chance they opt out, but if they keep an open mind and are willing to give it a chance, let’s start with the first session and go from there!

Nope! You’re not locked into the type of therapy you choose when we first meet. In fact, it’s very normal for therapy to change through the different seasons of your life! As long as we discuss these changes and make sure they feel good for you, we can always shift as we go.

Family Therapy:
The whole family system is considered the client.
All or a combination of family members meet together for the session.
Sometimes Family Therapy is recommended after or alongside Coaching, but not always.
I only offer Family Therapy as a supplement to Individual Therapy. I do not offer Family Therapy on its own.
Parent Coaching:
The young person/child is considered the client. All recommendations are made with the client in mind.
Parent Coaching occurs outside of individual sessions, and often does not include the child.
Parent Coaching typically involves the parent(s) or caregiver(s) of the child, but could also include siblings or extended family if appropriate.
In Coaching sessions, the Therapist provides the caregivers with tools and skills to better support their child. The aim is not intended to undermine the client’s ability to communicate effectively with the family, but rather to equip the family with tools to encourage that conversation.
